Asian Hockey Card Collection

Cheng Zhang @zhangcheng1994 -

1. Cheng is a gritty and tough Chinese forward from Qiqihar.

2. He made his international debut as a 15-year old in the 2009 @iihfhockey D3 U-18 World Junior Championships, where he notched 7 points and 18 PIMs in 4 games on his way to a Gold medal.

3. In 2011, Cheng captained the U-18 D2B World Junior Championship team. He notched 10 points in 5 games to lead the team to a Silver medal while being named the tournament’s top forward. He would go on to consistently represent China in international tournaments and collecting a U-20 D3 World Junior Championship Gold medal and two D2B World Championship medals.

4. Cheng played 5 seasons in the Asia League with the China Dragon, tallying 27 points in 147 games. In 2013-14, he finished 4th in the league in PIMs with 113.

5. In 2019, Cheng was one of four Chinese nationals to earn tryout spots with the @echlhockey @atlgladiators, but he did not earn a spot. Interestingly, when I went to a Glads game earlier this year while on a business trip, I saw shirts with his name still for sale at the team store! Cheng also played 3 games this past season in the @khl for @krschina.
